Breast Asymmetry

Introduction to Breast Asymmetry Surgery

Naturally occurring breasts are rarely ever symmetrical. For some women, this can become a cause for low self-esteem and extreme self-consciousness, especially while wearing tight-fitted clothing or during intimacy with a partner. Addressing breast asymmetry can bring a renewed sense of self-esteem in patients of any age, even after other breast surgeries. If you are facing this challenge, consider getting in touch with dual board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Ogilvie of Ogilvie Plastic Surgery for a consultation for breast asymmetry surgery in Chicago.

What is Breast Asymmetry Surgery?

Breast asymmetry surgery is a corrective surgery that aims to match both breasts in size and shape. The patient chooses one of their breasts as the model breast, and the surgeon matches the other breast to it, either doing a breast reduction, a breast lift, or a breast augmentation with implants or fat transfer.

Breast asymmetry is usually caused by genetics but can also result from other life events, such as prior breast surgery, such as a mastectomy, or the loss of breast volume after breastfeeding. The kind of asymmetry can be in the primary breast, the areola, and/or the nipples. Dr. Ogilvie can address all elements of the breast tissue during a breast asymmetry surgery.
