Neck Lift

Introduction to Neck Lift

Your face isn’t the only place that can begin showing signs of aging. The neck is another common area where wrinkles and excess skin can accumulate. If you’ve noticed these lines and wrinkles around your neck, you might feel that that aspect of your appearance needs to be addressed to make you look as young as you feel. Consider looking into a neck lift in Chicago with dual board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Ogilvie at his Ogilvie Plastic Surgery practice. What is a Neck Lift?

Wrinkles and lines can have various causes. Around the neck, they are most often caused by a significant amount of excess skin. A neck lift, medically known as platysmaplasty, will remove that excess skin in order to make the neck appear smoother and more youthful. By addressing wrinkles and lines on the neck, Dr. Ogilvie can help patients look younger in a way that appears largely natural. In other words, no one will notice you’ve had surgery — they’ll just notice you look great.

What Are the Benefits of a Neck Lift?

Our patients who have received a neck lift in Chicago at Ogilvie Plastic Surgery have shared the following benefits such as:

  • Boost in self-esteem
  • Improved jawline
  • Long-lasting results
  • Reduced appearance of neckbands
  • Reducing sagging jowls
  • Reducing wrinkles
  • Tightened and smoother neck skin

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Neck Lift?

Generally, candidates for neck lift surgery will look to address deep, significant, and plentiful wrinkles around the neck. These wrinkles can make you look older than you feel — and that feeling can even spread to your face; you might feel as though you look aged, but the problem may be wrinkles on your neck, not your face.

Sometimes, a neck lift may be coupled with a facelift procedure to give patients a more cohesive appearance. A significantly wrinkled neck can undermine even the more natural-looking facelift results and vice versa.

At a glance, good candidates for neck lift surgery will:

  • Be generally healthy; health should be good enough to endure surgery
  • Maintain realistic expectations about what a neck lift can achieve
  • Notice deep or significant wrinkles in the neck
  • Notice wrinkles and lines spread out over a wide area of the neck
  • Want a smoother, more elegant, and more youthful-looking neck

Dr. Ogilvie screens all plastic surgery patients to ensure they are good candidates. To see if you’re a good candidate for a neck lift by Dr. Ogilvie, contact us to schedule a consultation.

Neck Lift First Step

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a neck lift in Chicago is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie. During your consultation, Dr. Ogilvie will discuss your health history, aesthetic goals, needs, and any concerns you might have about the procedure. He will also share his techniques with their associated risk-benefit analysis. Finally, he will visually examine your neck to ensure that the procedure meets the desired results.

Dr. Ogilvie believes in compassionate care, helping patients understand every facet of their procedure and know precisely what to expect. Once he deems you a suitable candidate for the procedure, he will draft the surgical plan, which you can then take to the patient concierge to schedule the procedure, finalize billing options, and receive any pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Neck Lift Surgery

As with many other plastic surgery procedures, a neck lift is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning there is no overnight hospital stay. The vast majority of recuperation and recovery is done at home. A neck lift will usually follow these steps:

Anesthesia — Patients will choose local anesthesia with sedative or general anesthesia for their neck lift procedure. This decision is usually made in conjunction with Dr. Ogilvie’s recommendations.

Incisions — Incision types will vary depending on the changes patients want. However, most incisions will be made around the ears. When more substantial work is needed, incisions might start around the sideburns and wrap around the bottom of the ear. Once the incisions have been completed, Dr. Ogilvie will remove excess skin and reposition fat deposits as needed. An incision under the chin may also be needed, depending on what is required.

Closing the Incisions — Dr. Ogilvie will close the incisions using sutures. The sutures must either be removed in a few days or dissolved.

Neck Lift Recovery

After the procedure, Dr. Ogilvie and his team will monitor you in the recovery room until the sedation wears off. We recommend you have a family member or a friend drive you home to be extra careful as the effects of sedation might linger.

A neck lift takes its time to heal, especially because the neck is usually tight, swollen, and sore after the procedure. We encourage patients to rest and avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks after the procedure. As swelling minimizes, you may need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to support the neck and aid in the healing process.

Neck Lift Cost

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost in Chicago, IL?

The cost of a neck lift procedure in Chicago can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of the surgery, the surgeon’s, and the anesthetist’s fees. To figure out the cost of the procedure, it is best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie so that once you have a treatment plan, our Patient Coordinator can provide you with a clear-cut cost analysis.
