What’s the First Step?

Liposuction is not recommended for hypertensive and diabetic patients, for instance, so it is essential that you be honest about your health and chronic conditions. What to Expect on the Day of Neck & Chin Liposuction Surgery

On the day of your neck & chin liposuction, Dr. Ogilvie and his friendly staff will welcome you. They will go over the surgical plan once more to make sure there are no outlying questions. Then, an anesthetist will administer anesthesia to help you be pain-free during the procedure.

Dr. Ogilvie will begin your procedure by making incisions under the chin area and under both ear lobes, allowing for various angles to target the fat.

The liposuction portion is then performed through the incisions with a very thin rod called a cannula that is attached to a suction device. This part of the procedure scrapes any unwanted fat, dislodging it and removing it from the target area.

Dr. Ogilvie will close each incision with one or two small sutures after the fat suction is over and the skin has been pulled to optimum tightness. He will dress the wounds and might also apply a compression garment to keep pressure on the swelling.

This procedure will take approximately one hour to complete but will vary depending on the complexity of the individual cases.

Neck & Chin Liposuction Recovery

After your surgery is complete, Dr. Ogilvie will monitor you in our recovery room until the sedation wears off. You may still feel the effects of the numbing medication, which is why we encourage our patients to find a family member or friend to provide them with a ride home.

After the first twenty-four hours post-surgery, you will be able to remove the compression dressing for the first time, but just temporarily. You should wear this compression garment for the first week to stay on top of the swelling.

If they are able to, patients should begin walking right away to prevent the formation of blood clots. However, any strenuous exercise is not allowed for at least a week to avoid pressure on the facial area.
