Brow Lift

Introduction to Brow Lift (Browpexy)

One of the most universally recognized signs of aging is the distortion of the brow. As the face ages, the brows can often descend, causing the eyes to appear tired or depressed. Patients usually complain that expressing their emotions or feeling energized is more complicated. As performed by Dr. Michael Ogilvie in Chicago, brow lift surgery is intended to address these concerns by making the brow appear significantly more youthful. At OPS, we use state-of-the-art techniques to restore the position and shape of the brow to restore a more natural and youthful appearance. If your brow has become your face’s center of attention, contact our staff at OPS to set up an initial consultation with Dr. Ogilvie.

What is a Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift (Browpexy) or a “forehead lift” targets the area between your hairline and brow line and aims to tighten the skin while lifting the entire brow, revealing your eyes more clearly and presenting the forehead more visibly. This cosmetic surgery eliminates skin that creates drooping eyebrows, forehead furrows, and frown lines in the upper facial anatomy.

As the brows become heavier with aging, they often drop to or below the upper rim of the eye, causing a tired or angry appearance. To reposition the brow, these are the primary techniques used at OPS:

Classic Lift

Another name for a Peritracheal (hairline) incision is a classic lift. This classic lift involves cutting the hairline to lift the eyebrows while shortening the forehead by removing a strip of skin and underlying tissue along the incision. It is often chosen by people who want to lower the starting point of their forehead or have a “high forehead.”

Coronal Lift

In a Coronal brow lift, the cut is made on the crown of your head, pulling everything up and raising your forehead. This technique might be better for those looking to lower their forehead.

Direct Brow Lift

This lift is also called a “Gull Wing” Lift. In this technique, an entire section of skin is removed from the forehead, with Dr. Ogilvie taking special care to hide the incision along the eyebrows for reduced visible scarring. It is preferred for patients with a high forehead or receding hairline as it lowers the line on your forehead.

This technique eloquently lifts a sagging brow by tightening and smoothing by pulling the skin and tissue of the forehead down rather than up. It can also address eyebrow shape and asymmetry.

Endoscopic Lift

The Endoscopic Lift is for those who require a minor lift. It only requires five small cuts hidden at various points in the hairline, leaving no visible scar.Dr. Ogilvie will discuss the benefit-risk analysis of each technique to see what best suits your needs and goals.

What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

The benefits of any brow lift procedure in Chicago will vary depending on the patient. However, in general, brow lift benefits often include:

  • A more youthful appearance; small changes to the brow can make a big difference in how old or young patients look
  • Greater range of expressible emotions
  • You will no longer look as tired
  • An increase in confidence and self-esteem

Many patients report feeling and looking younger after a brow lift procedure. If you want to talk to Dr. Ogilvie about what benefits might be in store for you, contact us to schedule an appointment and get started on your transformation.

Who Are the Best Candidates for the Brow Lift Procedure?

When the signs of aging begin to show, which facial rejuvenation procedure would work best for you may not always be clear-cut. You could be a great candidate for a Chicago brow lift if:

  • You notice sagging or dropping of your brow line
  • You have a significant number of wrinkles located around your brow
  • The wrinkles located around your brow are especially severe or deep
  • It’s challenging to emote due to a sagging brow or excess skin along the brow
  • You notice a significant amount of excess skin on your brow
  • You are healthy enough for surgery
  • You have realistic expectations about what a brow lift procedure can accomplish.

Depending on your desires and treatable areas, brow lifts are sometimes performed in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as facelift or blepharoplasty.

If you are a good candidate for a brow lift or have questions about how it could help you look more youthful, contact our offices to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie.

Let’s get started

What’s the first step?

If you are looking into a Brow Lift in Chicago, IL, your first step is to schedule your consultation with dual board-certified Dr. Michael Ogilvie. During the appointment, you can ask questions about the procedure, discuss your aesthetic goals, and have Dr. Ogilvie examine your upper face. He will ask about your health history to ensure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. He will outline the various techniques of incision points and their associated risks and benefits.

Dr. Ogilvie will then create your surgical plan, including the techniques he plans to use, the type of sedation he will use, and all the other aspects of the surgery. If you are satisfied with the plan, you will meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule your surgery. You will also be provided with some pre-operative instructions for a higher chance of successful surgery and recovery.

What to Expect on the Day of Brow Lift Surgery

On the day of your brow lift in Chicago, Dr. Ogilvie and his team will welcome you and get you settled in the procedure room. Then, he will review the surgical plan created with you. Depending on what you discussed, an anesthetist will administer that type of anesthesia for you. The brow lift can be performed with either oral, IV, or general anesthesia to make you most comfortable during the procedure. When local anesthesia is appropriate, a sedative may also be used.

There are several primary techniques for repositioning the brow. Dr. Ogilvie will begin the incisions depending on which one you choose in your consultation. Five possible incisions may be used: the eyelid or brow incision, the temporal incision, the direct brow incision, the anterior hairline incision, or the traditional posterior hairline incision.

Once he can access the upper forehead area, he manipulates it to a final position that gives you a proportional and rejuvenated look. Finally, all incisions are typically closed with sutures or surgical clips, which are typically removed after one week of recovery.

A Brow Lift usually takes a few hours to perform, depending on Dr. Ogilvie’s techniques and how your body reacts to the procedure. Typically, a drain is placed to remove any fluids arising from the surgery.

Brow Lift Recovery

Once you are through the procedure, Dr. Ogilvie’s staff will monitor you in a recovery room to make sure the sedation wears off. Most patients will be able to return home the same day with the help of a family member or friend.

Expect some mild swelling and bruising, which will diminish in a few days. During the first five days after your procedure, you are encouraged to have minimal activity, routinely ice your upper facial area, and elevate your head to minimize swelling. You can resume regular activity three weeks after the procedure.

As with all surgical procedures, a brow lift results in some scarring. However, the incision area is designed to hide the scars within or at the hairline.

Brow Lift Cost

How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost in Chicago, IL?

The cost of a Brow Lift in Chicago, IL, varies depending on the type of technique used and the choice of sedation. To get an accurate estimate of the price, you should schedule your consultation with Dr. Ogilvie so that he can create the best surgical plan for you. Our Patient Coordinator will then be able to provide you with the cost after your plan is developed.
