About Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures available today. If you want rhinoplasty in Chicago, Dr. Ogilvie is here to help you achieve the facial transformation you’ve always wanted. Commonly referred to as a “nose job,” rhinoplasty can add or remove volume from your nose and change its overall shape and appearance.

Introduction to Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Even small changes to the nose can make a big impression. That’s because the nose acts as an anchor and centerpiece for the aesthetic features of the face. When the nose is too big or too small, it tends to stand out and affect facial harmony; however, when the nose is aesthetically balanced with the other elements of the face, everything works together.

How to Start The Rhinoplasty Process

Any rhinoplasty process with Dr. Ogilvie will start with a consultation. During your consultation, Dr. Ogilvie will discuss your desired results with you. Your physiology will be a significant factor when determining precisely what can be accomplished and what changes can be made to your nose. Dr. Ogilvie will guide you through the consultation process, so you are fully aware of your options.

Who is a Good Candidate For Rhinoplasty?

Individuals desire rhinoplasty procedures for a variety of reasons. Sometimes patients want to eliminate volume; in other cases, patients will want to add volume or structure in specific places. The desired outcomes vary as much as noses and are often suitably unique to patients.

In many cases, rhinoplasty is about doing everything possible to help the nose blend in with the rest of the face. Many rhinoplasty patients feel, before surgery, that the nose draws an undue amount of attention. For those patients, rhinoplasty returns to balance and harmony in the face.

Primary and Secondary Rhinoplasty

When patients are unsatisfied with the results of a rhinoplasty procedure, secondary rhinoplasty is sometimes performed to enhance the initial results. Dr. Ogilvie has performed many secondary rhinoplasty procedures for patients who were unhappy with the outcomes achieved by their original surgeons.

Is Rhinoplasty Right For Me?

In general, however, candidates for rhinoplasty will usually:

  • Want to alter the size and shape of his or her nose
  • Want to make changes to various parts of the nose
  • Be generally healthy enough for surgery
  • Have realistic expectations about what rhinoplasty can provide
  • Be able to take several days off of work while the nose heals
  • Want to address specific functional or breathing problems in the nose
  • Want the nose to draw less attention to itself

If you think you’re a good candidate for nose reshaping surgery, contact the offices of Dr. Ogilvie to schedule a consultation.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty is nearly always performed on an outpatient basis. Once you have recovered from the primary effects of the anesthesia, you will be allowed to return home for the duration of your recuperation.

Anesthesia — Rhinoplasty is performed with general anesthesia.

Incision — A rhinoplasty can be performed in an “open” or “closed” fashion. During a closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made inside the nose (just inside the piece of tissue between the two nostrils). Work is then performed through this small incision. During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made between the nostrils. The tissue is then pulled up and over the nose, providing necessary access to the nose to make significant changes. The incision used typically depends upon how extensive the procedure will be.

Recovery And Results

Patients can expect more significant transformations when undergoing an open rhinoplasty. However, a closed rhinoplasty will typically heal more quickly and allow patients to, for example, return to work more rapidly.

If you want to know more about how rhinoplasty might be able to improve the aesthetics and proportions of your nose and your face, contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie and begin the process of your transformation.

Dr. Ogilvie is an amazing surgeon. He listens to your exceptions before he puts his input in. I have never been unhappy with any of the procedures that Dr. Ogilvie has performed. He has also fixed a scar from a previous surgeon that looked horrible and now you can barley see it. I’ve had cosmetic procedures done by Dr Ogilvie, once again they were amazing! I would never go to anyone else. His staff is great as well .

Septoplasty

When patients have limited ability to or are unable to breathe through their nose or have a deviated septum, often a septoplasty is required to functionally improve their breathing. Dr. Ogilvie has performed many septoplasty procedures, often along with a rhinoplasty, for patients unable to breathe fully.

The Septoplasty Procedure

Septoplasty alone or as part of a larger rhinoplasty is nearly always performed on an outpatient basis. Once you have recovered from the primary effects of the anesthesia, you will be allowed to return home for the duration of your recuperation.

Anesthesia – Septoplasty is performed with general anesthesia.

Incision – A septoplasty can be performed in an “open” or “closed” fashion. During a closed septoplasty, an incision is made inside the nose (just inside the piece of tissue between the two nostrils). Work is then performed through this small incision. During an open septoplasty, an incision is made between the nostrils, and the tissue is pulled up and over the nose, providing necessary access to make significant changes to the nose. The incision used typically depends upon how extensive the procedure will be.

Results – Improvement in breathing is the ultimate goal, which can be achieved via an open or closed approach.

If you want to know more about how septoplasty might be able to improve your breathing, contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ogilvie and begin the process today.
